WWII Normandy breakout original UPI teletype news stories

For decades the prime means of transmitting news stories to newpapers
and TV and radio stations was the teletype, often called "the wire."

For sale here are some original UPI stories that were printed out
during WWII on the teletypes in the San Diego newspaper the
Independent. The publisher saved from stories that seem to mostly
cover Operation Cobra, the breakout from Normandy, and the end of the
war when the Germans were falling rapidly.

Teletypes are slow, and long stories were sent in segments, with
cryptic writing before and after each segment so the editor could put
the segments together.

New supply of sharp pointy things: bayonets & more

I have a new supply of mostly bayonets along with a CASE XX WWII Army
Air Forces folding survival knife. I also have a couple of WWII
Garand bayonet sheaths with the flaming ordnance bomb on them. I
should have most of these at my Oceanside flea market booth this
Saturday 9-3.

I also have some vintage gas masks this week.

Brass sign from WWII Navy troop transport

Based on the compartment number (A-105-AEL)), I believe this came
from a Haskell-class attack transport. I found online an Army Field
Manual which shows this exact same compartment number in use on the
USS Rockwell (APA-230) troop area on the main deck.

79th Engineers Korean War theater made patch

Asking $150 or best offer for this Korean-made patch. Here's some
info about the Korean War service of the 79th Engineer Construction
Battalion.

"The 79th was reactivated on February 28, 1949 with the outbreak of
the Korea war. From March to October 1950, the 79th was at Eniwetok
in the Pacific, preparing existing air base facilities for greater
capabilities. Once this was completed, the Battalion went to Korea at
Hungnam. During the major Chinese offensive in 1950, the 79th
assisted in the evacuation by water of some 60,000 refugees and three
troop divisions. This was a 24hr job, but the safety record
established by the 79th Engineer Construction Battalion was
Outstanding."

"The 79th participated in six campaigns during the Korean conflict,
in which it received two meritorious unit streamers, the Republic of
Korea Presidential Citation, and the Republic of Korea Presidential
Unit Citation. The Battalion was deactivated in January 1955."
